(Over-)Crowded

Maybe it’s just me, but when I failed to board 3 MRT trains after waiting on the platform for quite a while the previous evening, I was really skeptical about the government’s ‘aim’ to increase our current population of 4 million to (was it) 6.5 million. Like hello, even if we are able to ‘contain’ and ‘keep’ our overcrowding population within the concrete walls and high-rise buildings, are we sure we can handle the number of people flooding the streets and roads? [ps: I didn't board the trains each time because each was seriously overcrowded, so much so that I could see people's faces literally pasted onto the doors' panes -.-"]

True enough, the limited land area of country is not able to allow everyone to own their own transportation vehicle; either that or we get into serious traffic congestion similar to countries like T. (and then suffer from pollution too). Oh well, and so to curb that, we raise the bargaining power for someone to own a vehicle, we set up more barriers which make the people pay-and-pay, more and more. Granted. So guess we have to rely more on public transportation for travelling modes right? How about a bus that comes more frequently than 15mins per time? Maybe it’s just me who is so unlucky, but with almost seven different bus services servicing the bus routes near my house to the interchange, if we so happen to miss the 15-min interval timings, that’s it, we gotta wait for the buses which will come all together at the next interval.

Although the cab fares in Singapore is not that high as compared to many other countries, but because of the recent increase of the starting fare and ERPs and what’s-not, guess it’s still quite hard for commuters who relied on this perviously to digest.

Maybe we can increase the frequencies of our transportation modes especially during peak hours. And hopefully it solves the problem, but not the root of it. Increasing the number of train stations and buses only make places more accessible, not faster to reach if you consider the waiting time and such.
